Q: 67 corvette will not start with the key?
but starts with bypass straight from the starter . I noticed this ceramic box mounted on the firewall . Is that a resistor ?Could it be bad?

A: If you haven't done so, already, look for a simple answer, first. Check that all the wires are plugged into the ignition switch and there are no breaks visible. Is the wire that goes from the starter to the switch in tact? It might be the ignition switch, but that is unlikely. You can check to see if the resistor is bad, by taking it out of the circuit. Take the leads off and temporarily splice them together. Try to start the car. If it starts, you found your solution. If not, you will have to check the switch and also look for breaks in the wiring. You can check the switch by checking continuity across the post, but this involves figuring out which post do what and then checking them with the switch engaged. I hope this has helped.

Q: My 1989 Chevrolet Corvette sometimes has a problem starting, what could this be?
I have a 1989 Chevrolet Corvette with 67,000 miles. It sometimes has an issue starting up. It will turn over and immediately die. It usually takes a few more attempts and it will start up fine. It doesn't happen all time. I just replaced the fuel injectors and did a tune up on it 6 months ago. I have one theory and it could need a new electric fuel pump. Any other suggestions?

A: Was this problem evident before changing the injectors and tune-up? It sounds to me like the fuel in the line is returning back into the fuel tank after it is shut off. This will cause the car to start for a few seconds and stall. But, after the pump gets the fuel back through the line its fine. This should only be a problem if it sets for more than 1 hour. This will require a little more research on your part to find the valve that shouldnt allow fuel to flow back into the tank.

Q: Classic car rental- 1967 corvette?
For a gift for my father I would like to see if I could rent a 67 corvette. Does anyone know where I could find out how to do this? I am in Long Island NY

A: Good luck! A '67 Vette would be sweet to be driving around. But the value of these cars I feel would keep them out of other peoples hands just to rent. If you can prove me wrong, I would love to hear of it.

Q: 10 Point for best answer, If you could have a classic car colletion (1900-1970's) what cars would you get?
You can have as many as you want and no budget at all and every thing would be taken care of. Just make, model, and year. I'm just curious to see what others think. Mind would be: Ferrari Dino, Ford Highboy Roadster, 79 Corvette, Camaro 67, A 1952 Jaguar xk, and my favorite car that will never go out of style (AC Cobra 427)

A: Tatra T600/Tatra Plan - 1948 or the more modern Tatra 603 of 1956. Both are so unusual looking, historic cars from a Czechoslovakian manufacturer. Theres something about them and I can never decide whether they are stunning cars or butt-ugly! Humber Scepter Mark II, 1965. My first proper boyfriend had this car, and it was a classic then (only about 8 years ago) and that was what first sparked my interest in classic cars. Triumph Spitfire, 1962 - Need I explain? IMO, these cars are so stylish (well, not the Mark IV and 1500) and although you said budget wasn't a problem these cars are still affordable and plenty of parts around! Ferrari 275 - first car with a transaxle and I do love the facts its a v12 ;) Not especially classic but I used to have a Rover SD1, because I loved the sound the V8 made...until I realised I was only getting 15-20 Miles per gallon out of it! I agree with your choices too, there are so many cars I would love to own but the above are just a few that tug on my heartstrings :) I'd change the 1952 Jag XK to a '51 though.. Anyway nice question :)

Q: who knows classic corvette T3 headlights?
ok, I know the two prong T3 headlights with the 1 at the top and the "guide" at the bottom are correct as high beams for 63-67 vettes... I've got an old metal crate of headlights supposedly for vettes and am trying to ID some that dont have the T3 on them. were ALL lights used on old vettes ID with T3 only or were some blank or just had empty triangles?? trying to figure out if some of these are simply old parts store replacements from the 60's or 70's. all the lights were taken off actual vettes back in the mid to late 70's and stored since then.

A: I KNOW.

Q: What ever happened to 'Knock-off Wheels'?
One feature that some cars, mostly sports cars, used to have was 'knock-off' wheels. These were wheels placed on a single hub and were held in place with a "wing" nut and could be removed with a blow by a hammer. These were used on race cars and production cars like the early (53-67) Corvettes. I heard at one point that there was a law enacted that prohibited new cars from being produced and sold in the US with the 'knock-off's, because the wheels might simply fall off from improper attachment? Is this true?

A: hell yeah, those things where dangerous. my buddy had some knock offs on his lowrider cady. and we've seen the back tire drive past the car a few times!!! that and when rims began to be popular they where quite easy to steel. so people stoped buying them.

Q: Two 1963 Corvettes were auctioned last night at Barrett-Jackson. Which one would you choose?
Here is the video of the sale. Watch and then let me know which one you would choose: http://www.corvetteblogger.com/index.cfm/2008/1/18/BarrettJackson-08-VIDEO-A-Tale-of-Two-1963-Corvettes Lot #709 is a Tuxedo Black convertible with a '67 stinger hood and 20" Foose rims. It has the 327 ci 340 hp L76 engine and is coupled to a 4-speed transmission. It's bling was showing for a reason as it was recently used in the making of a music video by the rapper T.I. Sold for $85,250 with commission. The second 1963 Corvette in this highlight, Lot # 743 is a split window coupe, all original with a matching numbers base 327 ci 250 hp engine and a 4-Speed. It had some nice convenience options including power steering, power brakes and power windows. Finished in Riverside Red, the coupe is just stunning. Sold for $63,800 with commission.

A: the split window

Q: Does everyone believe that inflation myth on gas prices?
OK, I hear it on TV, and here on the net. We are paying less for gas now than ever if you factor in inflation. I went to http://www.westegg.com/inflation/ INFLATION CACULATOR. When I started driving in 1968 Gasoline was about 30 cents a gallon, some was 33 cents others were 26 cents. Using that figure gas should now cost $1.66 a gallon In 1975 I lived in Hawaii, gas there was more expensive than on the mainland, it was about 75 cents a gallon. That would make it now $2.81 a gallon ( pretty close) In 1995 I lived here close to Chicago, gas was about $1.05 a gallon, that would make it $1.31 a gallon now. I bought a house in 1980, paid $26,500.00 for it. As of 2005 it should be worth $67,300.00, and that's about what it is worth. When I bought it I could buy a top of the line Corvette for the same money, and it's worth about the price of a top of the line Corvette now! Numbers don't lie, be lairs use numbers to make what ever point they want! OH BOY! I hate it when someone tells me to check my sorce! Especially when they are right! So I pulled up the following sites, pretty simular! Used gas in 1968 http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl = $1.75 http://www.bankofcanada.ca/en/rates/inflation_calc.html = $1.76 http://www.halfhill.com/inflation.html = $1.75 OK, Check it out yourself,! But thank for the tip

A: I don't always trust the media, but I don't know if I would necessarily trust that website, either. This is the info at the bottom of the page: Creator & Maintainer: S. Morgan Friedman Contact: morgan@westegg.com Last modified: Mon Dec 11 06:09:52 2000 The last time it was updates was in 2000? What are his sources for his calculations, and has he had them confirmed? The internet is the same as media- created by people that oughta check their sources... Don't forget, there area lot of up-and-coming nations (like China) that are also thirsty for oil, which aill drive up the prices because there is a limited supply of oil but a great demand.

Q: i need some new classic muscle?
i have two car choices a 68 t-top corvette with a 350 and a muncie and a 67 camaro with a 350 and muncie

A: Take the Camaro, the Vette may be nicer but in the long run the Camaro will hold out and keep you happy longer.

Q: auto question what do you say?
I'm curious. Although I am considering a "salvage" car, whats the difference between a salvaged newer Corvette and say a 1967 Corvette with a complete restoration. Lets just say that 67 was a barn find. Imagine scattered pieces to replace, maybe it needed frame work, complete rebuild. Why would someone consider a '67 that was rebuilt and not a 97, or a 2007? If the difference is really just a piece of paper, why would a "salvage" car be any different than something that was completly restored? Would that 67 have a rebuild title? And if not then why would someone pay so much for a car that is basically "salvaged" just because it's older?

A: Title wise, nothing. but the idea and appeal of owning a piece of history such as a 67 Corvette is a lot more desirable if someones interested in the classics. To most mechanics, the older cars are so much better because they were built to last longer when there wasn't a service station on every block and they are pure american muscle, not fake like new cars. The original Hemi engine had more horse power than any dyno of the time could measure. so they guessed and said it made 425 HP. They were wrong. It was 475HP. Now adays its still called a Hemi(non SRT8) but its well under 400HP with a completely different design and not even the Challenger SRT8 can touch what it used to be, they're advertised at 425 HP which probably is an overstatement as usual. I'd prefer a 67 Mustang over a 2011 anyday. Honestly, which would you notice first?

Q: 1969 Yenko Camaro vs 1969 boss 429 mustang who would win in a drag?
you know (the Yenko Built by Don Yenko) with the 450hp 427 Corvette Inspired Engine while the boss has its 429 which had i believe 375hp obvious the Yenko Camaro Would kill the 69'boss due to the Yenko Camaro Having more Horsepower im more of a Chevy guy anyways i have Camaros the only ford i would ever drive is probably 1967 Shelby GT500 or a New 2007 Shelby GT500 than that the Camaro/Corvette will kill any ford even the Shelby GT500's 67' or 2007since the Z28 and or SS Camaro's are nearly identical to the Corvette in fact the only thing is that GM/Chevy detunes the Camaro so that it is not 100% Corvette if it wasnt for that The Camaro Would be exactly a Corvette base and or Z06 but anyways who would win between a 1969 SYC Yenko Camaro 427 450hp vs a 1969 boss 429 mustang 375hp in a straight drag race?

A: Yenko for sure!!!!!

Q: what might be a good first car for me?
hey guys, whats up? my name's ricky and i turned sixteen last month so i obviously need a car and am just getting around to it. so what do you think? what do you like? i am thinking about a vintage muscle car ('67-'72) but i'm not sure. anyway, car can't cost over $45,000. and before you say that a teenager can't drive a nice car, know that i have taken apart and put back together three cars, and have been driving fast cars (my dad's 911, M3, f355, and corvette z06) since i could reach the pedals, and have had hours of training every week on these cars. thanks for your time. and don't worry about insurance costs, because i can afford it. its ok dude, im just asking a question

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here - carinsurance.yoll.net
