Q: I am looking at maybe getting a 69 vette or maybe an 80's/early 90s Corvette.Does anyone have any advice?
What would the upkeep cost look like and would it be worth it to go for the later model vette???

A: Dodgeman is trying to be funny (since I know he knows better) - there was no 83 Corvette sold to the public. The C3 ended in model year 1982, and the C4 started in model year 1984. The early C3's (68+) are probably the most collectible (best investment) within the range you've established, but the the C4's after 84 are better cars. 1984 was a bad Corvette year, it had that crappy "cross fire" fuel injection and that 4+3 tranny, so it wasn't very fast and also rode poorly. In 85, the C4 had many improvements, multi port injection, improved suspension. Personally - I'd go for a C4, the newer (and lowest miles), the better, until I reached my budget. Do you want a good investment, or the better driver?

Q: How hard/expensive would it be to put together a 69 C3 Corvette? And what if it was a semi-replica?
I saw a C3 Corvette today and while I've always liked the car the flipups (which I've always doubted to be good-looking) are incredible (they sort of look like mini-rally lights and their excessively mechanical look compliments the futuristic exterior). It got me thinking - how much would it cost to restore a C3, or build a replica with benefits (ie: better suspension, maybe a non-steel body, lighter/more modern engine and/or possibly a rotary)? There are one or two C3 bodies near me, but they're in unknown - and probably bad - shape. Also, if I'd build this semi-replica, I wouldn't have to feel guilty for essentially destroying a 70s car for my own sake. So basically: -How much would it cost? -How hard would it be? These questions, of course, being asked for this semi-replica project, and then also for a restoration project. My father has an RX-7 and lately I've been accompanying him during his installations of some somewhat minor parts (bought a new intercooler, for example). I am going to university to begin earning a bachelor of Technology this fall - this might or might not help. Thanks for the quick responses. Asylum Driver - Good news that the body's fibreglass - means it shouldn't deteriorate over time, right? (I know it'll probably be gutted outside of that though) And yes, I understand that the rotary would be a blasphemy :P but as I see it, the car was supposed to be the American sports car, and the car has come with numerous engines, so what's the problem with getting an engine that'll help it do what it was designed for? I don't see how it's worse than, say, swapping the engine and it up for dragging? I still probably wouldn't do it, also considering that rotaries are expensive - but I'd do my best to look for a good-quality modern engine instead of blowing who knows how much finding a like-old carburetor setup. I understand it's a shame for a car like this to become a non-perfect restoration, but not much I could do. Wii_saint - Well, I've seen at least one on the internet that made replica frames. And yes, the 69 body is awesome :P As a side note, a semi-restoration would focus on making the Vette more maneuverable. An example would be an independent rear axle - but that, my father was saying, would probably require fabrication (you could start with one from another car, and then try to fit it in the frame). I think I need to start some sort of theory thread on a Corvette forum.

A: Just go buy a beat up 69 and restore it. Don't try to clone the car. There are plenty of them out there. And the sources for parts are pretty much unlimited. You will have the real thing. You can spend as much or as little as you want. If you want a driver, you will spend less than if you want a show car. The work is not difficult if you have mechanical skills, or people you know who do. Join your local Corvette club, and meet people. Also there are some good forums on the internet for other sources of information.

Q: 69 camaro and 78 corvette?
My dad has a 1978 l82 corvette it is and automatic, runs well, has less than 20,000 miles, all options, no mods, and has never been driven in the rain or down a dirt road. It however will need all four tires replaced due to dry rotting. He also has a 1969 camaro ss, it was parked running in a field beside our house because he had no where else to put it. the inside is perfect, but since it has been sitting for a few years I have no idea what kind of condition the engine is in. What do you think these 2 cars are worth.

A: impossible to vakue cars without seeing them, ebay would be your best source to get an estimate of their worth, just find comparable cars and see what they bid off for in mine and many others eyes the camaro will be more sought after and if you plan to see them ebay is a better route to go where do you live? would really like to see camaro if close

Q: Do you think driving a corvette make me look out of place?
I'm 69 white male and married. I like corvettes and never had one but I'm thinking of buying one now. Maybe it will make me feel young again, lol

A: You only live once. I say, go for it! Who cares what anyone thinks. When you get older, you're not supposed to have to worry about that anymore. (It's one of the perks of growing older.) So, if that's what you really want and you have the money and can afford one, enjoy! It will probably make you feel good and that will help you enjoy life more and feel younger. = )

Q: Edelbrock carb too big for my 69 Stingray!!!?
I have a 69 Corvette. The engine was rebuilt and they put a new manifold and a new carb on it that is too big. It now has an Edelbrock 1406 carb on it, but the air filter on it is designed for a hood scoop. The neck of it had to be cut down to fit it under the hood (which does NOT have a scoop). Does anyone know where I can get info on an air filter that I can put on it that will allow the proper airflow? It has to be a side intake/low profile filter that will fit on the 1406... Anyone? p.s. I didn't do it, I bought it this way.

A: go to you local auto parts store and get the k&n kit for it if they dont have it in stock they can order it for you

Q: Will a 1969 Firebird 350 Coupe body shell fit on a 2008 Corvette rolling chassis drive train?
I just purchased a 1969 Firebird and am looking at purchasing a 2008 Corvette engine + rolling chassis & drive train, but am wondering if the 69 body shell will fall right on top?

A: The C6 Corvette has a frame, where as the 1969 Firebird is a unibody design, which means that the body is the frame for the most part, with sub frames to hold the engine and drive train. The wheel bases of the two cars is completely different, and the wheel track of the two cars is also different. (the Corvette has a wider track, and a longer wheel base.Of course you can make anything fit with a fat enough wallet.

Q: Suggestions for a 68 or 69 Camero build?
I'm thinking of restoring a 68 or 69 Camero. Preferably an RS/SS. I've been thinking of a 396 with Corvette heads and using a staged six pack. I want a well behaved, but very fast car.

A: Here's some advice: 1) Learn to spell the name of the car correctly 2) Learn what you're talking about (Corvette heads?) 3) If you want a well-behaved car, a small block is the way to go due to less weight up front

Q: Stereo in Old Corvette or Camaro?
If i wanted to buy a '69-'74 Corvette or Camaro, would it even be possible to put some sub-woofers and a good new radio in it? I'm not worried about if there's not enough space i just want to know if its possible to put this stuff in old cars like this. If so, about how much would it be just for installation. Thanks.

A: Check out www.absoluteclassics.com. They and others sell stereo systems that will fit into classic cars without modification to the dash or interior.

Q: Who sells big block chevy exhaust manifold bolts that are made out of stainless steel?
Looking for BB manifold to engine block bolts that are made out of treated heat stainless steel for a 69 427 corvette.

A: EDLebrock. COM

Q: how much would this cost roughly? i have a beat up 69' camaro and i wanna restore and update it.?
the car would need body repair, due to some minor dings, scratches and that fact that’s it is starting (barely, thankfully) to rust. i would want a wide body kit (looks cool). New tires and old racing styles rims. a new corvette engine. Turbo charger. Headers. Racing performance suspension system. redo the interior with a cleaner material. custom hood. paint job and manufacturer style stripe and emblems. give me a rough estimation of total price or individual item prices.

A: That would cost a good amount of money. Look at the Corvette engine alone costing $8,000 to $16,000. Not to mention adding custom interior, racing rims, and the body kit. I'd say its a lot of money to restore an old Camaro, but if you have the money, go ahead and do it. It will be one B.A. car when you're done

Q: what are the fixes for wipers on 69 vette?
windshield wipers will not operate on my 1969 corvette.

A: 1. Make sure that the switch is getting power. 2. Make sure that the wiper motor is getting power. 3. Check all the connections in the linkages. If they are worn out the motor will turn and the wipers will not move. 4. Make sure that the wiper arms are secure on the wiper studs. One of mine worked loose recently and tightening the retaining nut is all it took to fix it. Hope this helps.

Q: i have a 1969 chevy impala convertible with an original L48 350ci/300hp corvette engine, how rare is this?
I know how much this car is worth without this engine but I want to know if this was an engine option that did not occur much in the impala in '69.

A: Perhaps one of the most lovable collectors items today. We have a few in our country with the original paint, interior, engines and gear boxes and very carefully maintained. I cannot confirm the engine on one of the cars, since it has been a long time when we talked to the owner about him selling the car, but I recollect it was a V-8. The white wall tyres and covers were original as well. In 1992 he wanted US$ 20,000/- and I am sure someone must have paid him that amount.
