A: The hardest part is getting the clutch pedal assembly and getting it installed right. It's not going to be a weekend project on the driveway. You can install the clutch pedal assembly with the car running the auto tranny, so it's done when you start pulling the actual tranny.
Q: Should I get a 1966 Ford Mustang for a first car?
I have recently found a 1966 Ford Mustang which I am in love with. It is in great condition, but I'm not a car person and I only know so much about this car from the research I have done. Would this be a safe and good first car?
A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here - carinsurance.yoll.net
Q: Is a 1966 ford mustang expensive to maintain?
I mean, more to maintain then an another average car. And its already in great condition and low miles.
Out of curiousity, how would it be in maintence if it had about 99,000 miles?
i would like to use it as a daily car by the way! so what do you think?
A: That is a very reliable car. The original Mustangs were meant to be cheap, reliable and fun transportation. Most everything on the car can be maintained with basic hand tools and with a basic understanding of cars. I would recommend buying a Haynes manual or service manual for it. This will walk you through the processes necessary to maintain it and keep it in driving order. Classic cars can be great, reliable transportation if you know how to maintain them. Just remember parts(especially wear items like bearings, joints, etc.) are going to be quite old by this point and to replace them may be harder then just finding someone to pay to do it. Some parts can not be replaced without either making new ones or finding used ones and refurbishing them.
Hope this helps, Good Luck!
Q: Can I get OnStar in a 1966 Ford Mustang?
I really want that car, but my mom won't let me get a car without OnStar. I know that OnStar only works with Fords and this is a Ford...
A: I don't think OnStar can be added to older vehicles. If you bought it from a Ford dealer, then perhaps it could be fitted, but they don't deal with collectibles like '66 Mustangs.
There are other similar systems available, probably. Find out what aspects of the OnStar system you "need" and see if you can purchase something like it from an after-market supplier, but as far as OnStar itself ... no, not available retroactively.
Q: How much would a 1966 Ford Mustang sell for?
it has original paint (yellow) and parts, basically my grandpa bought it in 66 and hes had it and taken care of it ever since, so its in pretty decent shape
oh and its a manual transmission if that makes a difference
A: Not enough information to give an accurate appraisal of this car.
Sounds like what i would call an unrestored survivor.
Color means nothing.
Miles make little difference on a car this old unless it has ridiculously low miles, like less than 20,000 documented miles.
A plain 66 Mustang is worth between $7500 - $15,000 for one that is in decent but not show car condition.
If it is a GT the value is between $11,000 - $19,000 for one that is in decent but not show car condition.
Add 7% for a 4 speed manual transmission
Deduct 5% for a 3 speed manual transmission
See the links below to get a better idea of the value of this car.
The third link explains the condition codes. Be honest with yourself when evaluating the condition of a vehicle. it is a very common mistake for someone to state that their baby is in better condition than it actually is. Any serious buyer will quickly spot this and walk away.
The ultimate value of this Mustang is the size of the check that someone would be willing to write you for it.
Q: 1966 ford mustang and making improvements?
I have a 289 small block v8 in it. i want to improve performance what should i do?
A: The 289 is a very reliable and easily improved engine or you can drop in a 5.0 from a late model. The '66s won't take a big block without performing major surgery on the engine compartment. If you add horsepower don't forget the suspension. Export bar, Monte Carlo bar, subframe connectors, traction masters. etc. will strengthen the body and improve the handling. You'll want to improve the braking with power disc brakes also.
Q: How much would a (1966 Ford Mustang Fast Back) cost me?
A: I was offered $9,000 for mine and it didn't even have a engine or trans in it..plus it needed body, paint and interior work..I turned it down.. we are just about ready to get it on the road..
Q: Want to muscle up a 1966 Ford Mustang.?
I am currently enrolled in college and my parents have a 1966 Ford Mustang. Its nothing to special right now its in fair shape no major rust. It only has the stock V-6 in it right now. I was wondering what size motor would be a nice powerful motor for that car. I just saw one that had a 347 stroker that was supercharged and had 600+hp. I was wondering what other motors might be a nice fit for the car.
A: go with a small block. big-block mustangs didn't show up until the re-design in '67. the earlier ones didn't have enough room between the inner fenders to comfortably put a big block in there. it can be done, but requires a lot of cutting and re-doing.
As for engines, you can get a lot of horsepower from a 302 very easily. there are many advantages of these engines, mainly because they were used in cars from '67 through '95 in mustangs. you can buy anything you'd ever want for the 302's too. later ones have fuel injection, so a carb'd one will be the easiest for you. you could also use a rarer 289 if you felt inclined for a more origional style, but there are very few exterior differences so no one will know which one you install.
if your still curious, look at this article from Car Craft where they got 400hp with just a new set of heads, everything else was stock
Q: Can someone give me a cost estimate for a 1966 Ford Mustang coupe, used?
I want my first car to be a 1996 Ford Mustang V8 coupe
something sorta like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1966-Mustang-Coupe-3owner-Rust-Free-Beauty_W0QQitemZ330347446738QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item4cea3e01d2&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245
How much would it cost to get a used mustang, and say, have to put in a radio, fix scratches and repaint?
and fix the engine
it doesnt go back as far as 1966
A: the one on ebay might go for around $6k, it's hard to tell, maybe more. you could put another $6k in a hot motor, and again in a hot paint job...it adds up fast..
so what has it got to do with wanting a 96?
Q: 1966 Ford Mustang Mileage?
Does anyone know what the city and highway mileage for the 1966 ford mustang inline 6 engine is?
A: The '66 should be about the same or possibly just slightly better, than the '68 which is what I've owned for the last 20 some years. The '66 is slightly smaller and lighter so may be just a tad thriftier. I only drive mine for special events and occasional drives now. However back a few years when I drove it daily, and kept track of mileage, it got around 20MPG town and 23 to 25 on the road. Not terribly fuel efficient by todays standards but not a real gas hog either. A good tuneup, to include a carb overhaul and a pertronix ignition will definitely help. The carbs had some weaknesses in the design which an outfit like Pony Carbs can correct during a rebuild. The Pertronix ignition will get rid of the contacts, which are a weak point. They still leave it looking original, unless you remove the distributor cap, and can be purchased from most Mustang parts distributors. You can find Pony Carbs on the web and they advertise in Mustang Monthly magazine. Good luck.
Q: i found a 1966 ford mustang. the car has an i6 and it needs a a lot of body work. ?
the car is rusting out at the corners and has been redone once. there are also tears on the seat. like i said it is an i6 and not a 289. they want 3,500 and i was wondering if this is the right price or should it be lower or higher.
A: gen patton must be smoking some good stuff. You don't get a bank involved in a restoration project. Their values/figures don't mean jack in the Mustang enthusiast world. Any store that sells magazines should have Classic Mustang Magazine and with that you'll have almost endless sources for restoration parts. That price is way too high and the owner must be high as well. If it's in the shape you claim it to be I would stay within the $500 to $800 range. If they find that to be an insulting price then you came out on top as the smart person that didn't buy it. Click ther link below for classic Mustang tech
Q: does anyone know where i can buy a V8 engine for my 1966 ford mustang?

Q: 1966 ford mustang??
i have a 1966 ford mustang that has a broken heater. i have all the parts but im not sure how to put it back together in the car so it wont break. what do you suggest i do?
A: I would suggest you buy a Chitons Manual for the 66 Mustang. It will give you step by step instructions with diagrams to replace the Heater .
Q: 1966 Ford Mustang convertible?
is a 1966 or 1965 Ford Mustang convertible a good first car for a teen that is 17
A: no...a 60s collector car by todays standards requires constant tuning..
and parts aren't cheap...
Plus you don't really learn to drive until about 2-4 years after you get your license, so you tend to bump things..
Insurance would probably run 300.00 a month for a 17 yearold....
