Q: will we need tire chains if we are driving to Reno, NV from Stockton, CA?
My fiance and I are planning a trip to Reno for our anniversary Feb. 26-28, 2010. We have a Kia Sportage, no 4x4 =( Does anyone know firsthand if we will need to buy chains? Or can anyone give me a website that updates on weather conditions in Reno? Thank you.
A: You can always consult the weather channels website at Weather.com. Go there and click driving conditions and it'll give you options for freeways. You would take I-80 through the Sierra Nevada mountain range. It all depends on if it is snowing in the Sierras before or during your drive. If it is snowing there is a good chance that you will need to put on chains at about 5,000 feet. The highway is very windy and the slopes in the sierras are very steep at places so I suggest being prepared. Highway officials WILL stop you and not let you continue unless you put chains on if it is snowing heavely. Although you have 4 wheel drive, chains will still be neccesary as snow and water will create extremely slippery conditions and the highway is only two lanes. The best thing to do would be wait until closer to the 26th and check the weather and weather channel outlook. If there is no precipitation in Northern California in the days prior to your trip then you should be good. Good luck!
Q: Kia owners, years 2004-2010, please tell me your opinion?
I am looking into getting a used car. I don't want to spend alot, but I want alot of features. I have heard alot of good things about Kia, and they seem to fit the bill. But I have also heard alot of bad things about Kia as well. At this point, I am almost certain that I want to get an 07 Sportage or Spectra, and I am also considering a brand new Borrego or Soul. Whatever my choice is, I just want to know your experience with Kia. Please rate the following out of 5 stars:

A: I've had a couple of Kias & here's what I think:
Sportage: small interior & poor gas mileage
Optima (which is what I have now): I love it, but it gets crappy gas mileage as well, interior design is beautiful & very cush! For the price, it's the best deal I've had compared to every car I've ever owned. Very reliable (although mine is not old at all), good quality, although stupid things break (at least it's not the big stuff going bad)
I tried the Rondo when I had to use a rental, it was cool but def. not as many "bells & whistles" as my Optima, but very roomy
Q: I'm looking for a used car?
I'll be turning sixteen on January 29, 2010. My parents want to get me a car to get to and from work and school. I really don't know much about cars. The only issues my Mom and Dad have are:
1. They don't want me to get squashed in a little Ford Focus
2. They want a car for $4000 or less
and
3. It needs to have reasonable gas mileage
I was looking at the Kia Sportage and that might be a possibility! Any ideas? Thanks so much.
