A: ju

Q: Life expectancy of 2004-2007 VW Golf?
I am considering buying a 2004-2007 VW Golf with 30,000- 50,000 miles on it. I have heard many great things about the gas mileage and length of life of the vehicle. What can I REALISTICALLY expect in terms of average fuel economy and how many miles the car will last for, this assuming regular oil changes and maintenance. Thanks

A: I give it 3 days

Q: 2007 VW Golf can't go above 80km hr without serious jolting??? Anyone know why?
Its fine below 80km hr, as soon as I accelerate above 80 it starts getting jerky, like I'm driving over really rough road (the road is smooth)....any ideas what the problem might be?

A: It most likely is a wheel issue. Ask the mechanic to check out the wheel balance and alignment.

Q: 2007 VW Golf head lights?
Does anyone know the OEM size of bulbs for both high beam and low beam?

A: H7's for the high and low beam.

Q: How to get VW Golf Mk5 CD/radio unit into AUX mode?
I have a 2007 VW Golf mk5 with a pretty standard looking music player:- single CD + AM/FM radio. I have a Motorola bluetooth phone unit connected to it, which has a 3.5mm socket connected to the back of the music player. The instruction manual says it should be possible to put the Golf's music unit into AUX mode in order to play external music sources. It doesn't say how this is done and none of the VW garage staff i've spoken to know how to do this. If I connect an mp3 player to the 3.5mm socket....nothing happens. It seems that somehow I have to tell the music player to go to AUX mode....anybody know how to do this?

A: If you have plugged something into the cd changer socket of the rear of the stereo then you press 'CD' to change between the cd player on the stereo and the aux imput (either a cd changer or and mp3 aux imput) However if you have fitted the motorola thing as a blueteeth phone kit this isnt actually conected to the AUX imput and it WILL NOT WORK as a music player, these work by tapping into the speaker wires and using the phone mute wire to switch to phone mode when it rings. What you need is a 'connects 2' cd changer emulator plugged into the cd changer port on the back of the radio, these cost £20 and take about 10 - 15 mins to fit, then connect your ipod to it and press the CD button (once for single cd then second time for AUX Hope this helps

Q: Which one shall I buy . I have found two different VW Golfs 2007. One has 1900 diesel and the other 2000?
Diesel . Which one will be most reliable and use less fuel?

A: Wayne, I assume your in the US? If so, the 2007 Golf Diesel didnt come in the 1.9L.... only the 2.0L TDI.... so that 1900 your looking at must be the older style Golf (1999-2005). Get the 2.0L TDI, AWESOME engine... Finally!!

Q: BEST ANSWER GETS 10 POINTS honda civic vs gti golf?
2007 Honda civic or 2007 VW GTI Golf ? what would u say is more of suitable for me, an 18 year old girl. I just want opinions. so a 2007 honda civic ex 4 door for 13500 with 44k miles. or a VW GTI golf with 14k miles which going for 16000. what car do u like better and why? any pros and cons about the car? THANKS

A: There are pros and cons to both cars, so it depends on what you're willing to sacrifice for the good. Honda Civic: Pros: Great MPG Good Reliability Good Resale Value Great Safety Cons: Boring to drive VERY overpopulated on the road Interior feels cheap for the price you're paying VW GTi: Pros: FUN to drive High quality interior SAFE Fast Not as many of them on the road as the civic good resale value sporty Reliable Cons: Maintenance is a bit more expensive than the civic Repairs are a bit more on the civic when comes time for repairs MPG is less than the civic, and if you go for a turbo model, it uses premium gas So it depends if you're willing to sacrifice the price of maintenance/gas for a fun car, or you would rather stick with the cheaper to maintain car and own a more boring car. Both are great choices, and you're not losing with either- test drive both of them out and see how you feel behind the wheel.

Q: VW Golf 1.4L.........?
I intend to buy a 2007 model and my question is: Is there a noticeable difference(in power) between the 75 & 80 b.h.p versions? I cant go for the 1.6L because it would be costlier for me to insure. I know there will be people who will say go for an Astra or a Focus but I really hate the styling of those cars. It's gotta be a Golf..

A: No there is not much difference in power the Mk5 golf comes with 80bhp stock. If it was up to me I would go for a 1.6 or the 2.0 TDI! Much better value for money especially the TDI.

Q: VW Golf question..../?
Is it possible to have the remote key fob of my Golf programmed to close any of the car windows that have been left open when I lock the doors. 2007 model

A: As has already been said, it should already be programmed to do so. Press the door lock button and hold it, and the windows should go up. You need to keep the button held down though.

Q: is a volkwagen the right way to go?
ive heard the older vw werent all reliable. costing too much to maintain the car , you have to get it fixed a lot and all that crap is that true? but idk about the newer ones. i was thinking about getting a 2007 gti golf. do u think it would be reliable? what color do u think is nice for a gti golf. just want opinions. thanks . jetta or gti golf?? are gti golf a girly car?

A: Old Bugs not reliable: When you see one on the road (and you will see a lot of them), call to mind the fact that it is a least 30 years old and likely closer to 50 ! They keep on running, parts are readily available, and they are easy to work on. They lack many of the features, safety additions, and luxury options of the newer cars, but that is more then made up for by the reliability and the acceptibility of the car. I have met more people and heard more fun stories (and dated a few ladies) via my bug then I ever did with my GM Iron. .

Q: Should I get rid of my 2003 VW Passat GLS with 127,000 mi on it?
Hey everyone. I know I asked this question at 99,000 mi. Well here I am at 127,000 mi asking the same one. I got my Passat from the VW dealer as certified pre-owned in April 2007. 3 years later I'm getting sick of the costs. This is what I mean. Though I love my car, and have invested a lot in it, I'm losing too much money. Vehicle: 2003 VW Passat GLS 1.8T 4 cylinder black cloth interior, automatic tip tronic transmission Bought the car at $13,999 Payment per month $272.00 mileage: $49,999 at the time. What I'm up against now: New Motor Mounts $500-600 average per mount w/labor New Valve Cover Gasket $198 with labor New Spark plugs and ignition coils $370.00 roughly with labor The mechanic has an Audi A3 and previously owned a Passat like mine, both 1.8 T engines. He said, "I'm telling you straight up, the 1.8T engine wasn't a very good engine, I've learned this twice and am trying to get rid of my current Audi, however if you own a manual there are less problems, but resell value is lower since many ppl don't want to try manual these days." My car has an upgraded Exhaust System, which is great, and I invested into getting a Kenwood DNX-7100 with blu-tooth and ipod connections. It's been great to have those features but along the way I just keep dropping money all at once. The mechanic said, "I'm surprised the transmission hasn't gone out on you yet since that's the number one thing we get when it comes into the shop." Many of you I'm sure have had your Passats to 250,000 mi and enjoyed them, but in my situation I'm debating. I know I'll be upside down on it I still owe $5,900.00 Trade in value $2500.00 kelly blue book as it's somewhere between fair and good. Do I get another car? A used Rabbit? Jetta? or a newer Golf TDI? I'm stuck and yes the world keeps telling me get a Honda or Toyota but I want to be happy not miserable when I'm driving. your thoughts? BTW this list is just an example. lists like this keep coming every few months to my car and I have to drop several hundred on it. Wow I thank you for your answer. Yes my wife has an '04 Jetta. She LOVES It. and it has very few problems yet it only has 60,000 mi on it. haha yeah I do enjoy my Passat. i compared the drive to my friend's 2001 BMW 300 series. It felt the same. My father brought up an important point. He said even if I wanted a new car the payments would be much higher and insurance especially if I get a VW again and I'm in school and the wife is a recent master's grad looking for a job so money is something we lack. Looks like I'm stuck but jetta, gli, gti, or rabbit, even the new golf all sound good especially tdis with 236 foot lbs of torque.

A: Wow. You obviously love the Passat. Like a wayward child that goes astray now and then. Yet we still love them. I know a car is an inanimate object, yet I do love my '06 VW GTI. The car has 60,000 unsurpassed reliable miles on it. Zero problems. In all honesty ,even if I had to sink $$ in it , I would do so. Reminds me of the days of the MG Midget, Fiat Spyder, and other sports cars that broke down once a month. Yet owners nurtured them . Then drove them with maniacal delight, grinning the whole time. As a young man I could not afford these cars. Like many I told myself I wouldnt own a car that was draining me $$$. I just did not get it. Now I do. The passion part anyway.... You see, the GTI has given me so much passion, enthusiasm, and exuberance it would be a betrayal to give it up. Even after a bad day at the office, once I settle myself behind the form-fitted leather steering wheel and hear that turbo scream as I rocket away to home, I' m Happy! Doubly so, as I have the best of both worlds. A practical sports car that would embarass the MG, Spyder, et.al and still drive free of repair costs. Thats my take on cars and loving them. What would I do in your shoes? If I was passionate abt. driving the Passat I 'd keep it. Think of it this way; the repairs you mention are only abt 3 or 4 car payments total. At some point, the repairs must end, right? [Put the Passat on a scale- $$ on one side, passion of driving it on the other. See how it balances out for you. IMO, you are right abt the Toyota, etc. I've owned a Toy. and a Mazda and others. Nothing comes close to the sheer delight of piloting a VW down the road. I mean they are good cars. But Boring. If the balance goes against the Passat, may I suggest a GTI or Jetta? My wife's 05 Jetta is unsurpassed in the reliability dept. 6 years and going strong. My son's 08 Rabbit is a stellar performer too. Well those are my thoughts.....

Q: how reliable are Volkswagens?
ive heard the older vw werent all reliable. costing too much to maintain the car , you have to get it fixed a lot and all that crap is that true? but idk about the newer ones. i was thinking about getting a 2007 gti golf. do u think it would be reliable? what color do u think is nice for a gti golf. just want opinions. thanks .

A: The VW GTi is fairly reliable , and is good drivers car, some common problems listed are here.silver would be a good color for the GTi.good luck. http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/2006-to-2008-volkswagen-gti-2.htm http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/reliability.aspx?year=2006&make=Volkswagen&model=GTI

Q: WHY ARE HOT HATCHBACKS SO EXPENSIVE ??????????
whats up people was looking to switch my tired bmw 118d for something a bit more powerful 200hp+ but the prices of hot hatches these days is absolutley ridiculous i.e. audi s3 - £30,000 ford focus rs - £32,000 vw golf gti - £30,000 vw scirocco 2.0tsi - £27,000 bmw 135i - £30,000 mini cooper s jcw - £25,000 now lets the alternatives for that kind of money 2009 audi s5 - £30,500 (and i am not joking search auto trader) 2007 audi rs4 - £32,000 2009 bmw 335i m sport **fullu loaded** - £30,000 2007 bmw m3 **20.000 miles** - £35,000 2006 bmw m5 - £32,000 2009 porsche cayman - £30,000 and many more so my question is with so many hyper performance cars out there for near enough the same money why would anybody bother with hot hatches these days ?? if i can remember clearly hot hatches were meant for people who wanted performance but couldn't afford prestige marques i.e. young working professionals on less than 30k a year but these days these so called hot hatches are seriously overpriced so c'mon people let me know what you think

A: You answered your own question. Those hatchbacks are hot. Which means, in high demand. Demand versus supply, always means that the prices will skyrocket. If everyone didn't think they were popular and try to buy them, like you're doing, the prices wouldn't be so high. Go after a car that isn't "Hot" and you won't have to pay nearly as much.

Q: Will my car insurance premium increase -- although I have not made a claim for a recent accident ?
I am a full UK driving license holder since the last 2.5 years and have not since then claimed insurance / no claims bonus. I met with a minor accident recently year in December 2007 and I admit that it was my fault. While I was reversing, because of heavy traffic noise and my left view being blocked by a lamp post and the right being blocked by a waiting car, I bumped into a car on my back. Unfortunately, the car behind me (a second hand 1990's Volks Wagon Golf) sustained some damage to its back right door but my Honda Accord suffered from just a few scratches on the bumper. After the incident, we exchanged our car insurance details and departed. Although, the owner of the VW claimed insurance for her damage, I did not claim for mine because it was minor. Now, when applying for my car insurance this year -- I am right to say that I have not made any claims till now (so that my premium does not shoot up ?) Please advice.

A: Let me try and clear this up for you. Although you did not make a claim for your damages the other person did make a claim for their damages and it was probably your insurance company that paid for their damages (as you were at fault) Any insurance company you go to you would have to inform them that you were involved in a "fault" claim and i imagine that this would have also resulted in you losing your no claims bonus? so you would also have to advise them of the correct number of years no claims bonus you had (you may be lucky if you have 1 year - the company may put you back to nil!) I hope this helps you.

A: The choice of car depends on your need. If u need outright power and speed , the Golf GTi is the car for you, but be prepared for expensive repairs/maintainance..The honda civic is a proven car, over the years, something which you can bank on.The Honda is also much more reliable compared to the VW, and i think is a better car for you.
