Q: Buying a car. Which one of these VW Jetta's?
I've no mechanical common sense & I love VW's, I'm inclined to buy the sexiest looking one... Which could obviously be the wrong thing to do. So, here are my options. 91 Jetta $1400 - 193,000 miles // tags til 2010 // needs new ac hose and freon charge // Seller claims it doesn't leak, overheat or shake. 90 Jetta GL $1000 - 127,000 miles // it was in a wreck so it has a SALVAGE TITLE // New head gaske, Interior is clean, tires in good shape. Replaced master cylinder, wheel cylinders, and starter. Tags til 09. Clean title. NO AC 89 Jetta $1000 - Tags til 09 // Solid engine, tags til 09, needs new tires, int is clean // Clean title. Has freon leak. Which one sounds like the beat deal?? I need to get one of them soon!

A: Although I would like more information about all the vehicles, I'd probably choose the 1989, since it (according to you) has a good motor. Decent tyres aren't that expensive, clean title is important; some insurance companies will not insure a salvage titled car. I assume that you will have the vehicle checked out by someone who works on VW's before purchase, this is a MUST! You want to avoid taking on a car that could be an endless money pit or worse, endanger your life. Don't laugh, I've seen a lot of used cars over 30 + years in the automotive service business and some of the cars I've inspected should be allowed to roll, much less driven! At the age of all of these vehicles, condition and mechanical shape is most important. I would also suggest replacement of the seat/shoulder belt webbing or the belts themselves. Many safety experts consider 10 years to be the normal lifetime of seat belts; I've even replaced belts on several of vehicles (you can look up in Hemmings Motor News for a couple companies that replace the seat belt webbing; you send them the belt assemblies, they replace it). Also, replace the brake hoses and clutch hoses, they age also and are likely to have suffered from aging and have cracks in the outer cover and inspect the fuel lines as well. I've replaced various hoses in many of my cars due to age and have almost never suffered a break down on the road due to a hose failure. Which ever vehicle you choose, allow at least $500 or more for reconditioning to make the safe to drive, a higher allowance of money would be even better. With an average used car now getting close to $10,000, you should expect a lot of compromises in anything that costs a lot less. I wish you well in your search for the "perfect car". Hope this helps, a car nut.

Q: how would the Mazda RX8 do longevity wis?
which car would last me longer: a 2010 Mazda RX8 or the 2010 VW Jetta SE?

A: They will both last about the same as long as you take care of them. The RX8 WILL need to be taken care of more carefully though, BUT it's a WAY cooler car. They are very rare and it's worth having to do a little more work to keep one.

Q: 91 VW jetta with 193,000 miles? Does this sound bad to anyone?
Here's the craigslist post. I wanna pic this car up, but I'm not certain cause that is a lotta miles!!! Is this too good to be true? How many miles can you put on a car like this before the engine dies? Great gas saver!!! 1.8 liters (4 cylinders) runs good doesn't quit on u! doesn't leak, overheat, shake. car runs good up hill took it to Prescott Valley atleast 10 times. has sunroof, CD player, 4 door, black / gray interior. although it has 193,000 miles motor is well maintained. A/C system works, u just need to replace a hose that broke and then recharge. (hose is about $5 at Pick a Part) hose is located in the front of vehicle easily accesable. Jetta has tags / Emmision till 2010! *** Wife got a new car, we no longer have need for this one***

A: wow! I can't believe it is still running! I wouldn't buy anything over 80K miles. And if it is such a great car, why are they selling it.

Q: If you were to buy a new car and only had these choices what would you pick?
A 2010 Kia Forte Koup , VW Golf , VW Jetta , or a Dodge Avenger and please tell me why you chose that vehicle and not the others. add the Mitsubishi lancer as one of the choices Dave i thank you for giving me such a good answer.

A: You also should compare car insurance quotes for cars before buying one, for example here - carinsurance.deep-ice.com

Q: Which car should I get as my first car?
I am hoping to get a car soon, these are some of my top choices: -2010 mazda 3 hatchback -2009 VW Jetta -2009 Civic Coupe -2009 Hyundai Tiburon Which do you think is the overall best car on the list?

A: the mazda is the most fun to drive as well as being the only car in this segment to offer a hatch. you can find a trim level to match your budget the jetta is very good car, the TDI is a mpg winner. Hyundai makes quality vehicles but the back seat of the Tiburon is only for kids the civic is bullet proof but boring I'd love to get 33 mpg overall and a stellar 47 mpg on the highway driving a VW Jetta TDI but I know the parts and service are too expensive. go for the zoom zoom zoom

A: jetta's a good car. plus if you get diesel, you will get really good fuel economy

Q: Cars... Honda, Toyota, VW etc?
So many cars but just choose one. From these which would you like the best? Like by the speed and appearance? Which is the best? * VW Jetta * Toyota Corolla * Toyota Camry * Toyota Prius * Honda Civic * Mazda3 Sport * ALL 2010 MODELS

A: A Volkswagen Jetta TDI diesel would fit me best But the car that's best for me is not best for all. I think all of them are pretty good cars in different ways...

Q: Do you think i should buy this car?
I found a used 2009 VW Jetta that I really like. The dealer said it was a corporate car so thats why it is only a year old. Its got around 11,000 miles on it. it is a really nice blue color! there is basically nothing wrong with the car from what i can tell. they are selling it for around $20,000. I can get a brand new 2010 Jetta for around $22,500-$23,000. Brand new i get the full warrenty and it comes to me with nothing wrong with it (i mean scratch and ding wise). If i get the 2010 though, i can not get it in blue bc VW stopped making that color in 2009. I really like the blue and none of the current colors jump out at me. any suggestions?? thank you soooo much for you help!!

Q: Best 2010 car to lease for under $25,000?
I'm 22 years old male and just got my first real full-time job, so I am looking for a new car to lease. I looked at the VW Jetta and the Mazda3 so far. I like them both, but got a better quote for the jetta so I am leaning towards that. I am looking to spend about $250 a month on a lease with under $1000 down (haggling involved of course). I was wondering what other cars fall into this category? I need to make a decision quick since I'm sort of borrowing a car at the moment to get to work.

A: Don't lease, you're just throwing money in a hole. I would also recommend you buy used because you can get something WAY better used for $25k(hell for under 20K) than buying entry level economy cars. Hell you can find a 06 or so Acura TL for $16-18K with navi, leather, and a more powerful engine than the 3 or Jetta.

Q: Which new car would you rather have and why?
A 2010 Mazda 3, Honda Civic , VW Jetta or VW Golf

A: The Golf/Jetta. Better interior, more torque. Between the two I like the Golf for its styling and added utility. I find the 3 ugly, and the civic buzzy.

Q: Would a VW Tiguan be a good first car?
I'm going to be getting my license in a couple of months and my dad has agreed to just straight up get me a car. My limit is under 30,000 which is quite high considering I'm a new driver. ;p Anyway, I really like the VW Tiguan and it's one of the safest cars/SUVs on the road. But I'm used to driving a Toyota Camry (either an '06 or '07) and a '07 VW GTI. You think a compact SUV would be okay as a first car or should I stick to a sedan or compact car like the Jetta or the 2010 GTI?

A: Used Lexus IS250 AWD Used Infiniti G35 Used BMW 3 series Used MB C-Klasse Used Audi A4 Used BMW X3 Toyota 4Runner Volvo S40 Volvo C30 Mini Cooper Out of your list, the Tiguans a good car, just don't overcorrect, and get distracted on the road, overcorrecting causes the car to flip, and distractions cause the car to crash. Jettas good as well, TDI model is awesome, diesel very eco friendly.

Q: Who would win in quarter mile drag race?
2001 Ford Windstar SE 1999 VW Jetta 1.8 GL 2005 Ford Taurus V6 3.0 SE Duratec 2010 Ford Fusion SEL V4 2001 Hyundai Sonata V6 2.5 GLS

A: There was no 1.8L Jetta for the North American market in 1999. There was in 2001 though. Prior to 2001 the 2.0L I4 was the base engine and it was not exactly fast. In 2001 a 1.8L turbo was available, it was a good bit quicker, but no faster than most of the other cars on the list. If the Taurus is an SE it won't have the 3.0 DOHC Duratec as it was only available in the SEL model. The SE had the 3.0 OHV Vulcan V6, it's substantially less powerful than the Duratec. The Fusion will have an inline 4, there hasn't been a V4 used in a road going car in over 30 years. To answer your question the Fusion will likely be the quickest car in the 1/4 mile. The Windstar is quite heavy. The Jetta is underpowered, The Taurus is both heavy and underpowered, and the Sonata is slow as well.

Q: Cars for my son... Looking for advice...help me?
Okay so I'm probably going to get him a sedan or small suv/crossover. Please let me know what you think of the cars that I'm debating. You can also add another car to the list if you think it's worth considering. It biggest concerns are safety, reliablility, and overal quality. Sedans: Ford Fusion Ford Fusion Hybrid 2010 Honda Accord Honda Accord Hybrid VW Jetta VW GTI Small SUV's/Crossovers: Ford Escape Ford Escape Hybrid Ford Edge VW Tiguan Toyota Venza Please let me know what you think of these and what other cars I should consider!! Thank youuuuu!!!!!

A: I would think rather a Ford Escape with AWD or a Ford Fusion with AWD. These vehicles are really reliable, some of the safest vehicles on the road and in case he ever runs into bad weather such as snow and rain the AWD will be there ready to kick in to prevent slippage. I find that there is way to much hard plastic in Honda's and as well they struggle in bad weather such as snow and icy roads and VWs are not the most reliable vehicles out there and maintenance on them can be fairly pricey.

Q: VW owners: does VW still has the bad reputation it has earned on reliability?
The reason I am asking is because I am considering either a 2010 GTI or GLI as a new car, but I've heard polarizing opinions about VW in general. They are either 'junk', or as good as any other car, as far as reliability is concerned. I know Consumer Reports are not particularly fond of the brand, but here's the kicker: my brother in law had a Jetta he hated for being problematic, yet one of my best friends had another Jetta that was as reliable as a Corolla. Both were 2004 models. From what I heard, since the 2006-on models are being built in Wolfsburg, that there is better quality among models (except the Touareg, which apparently is the worst VW ever...lol). So I'd like to know what your experiences are as an owner. What year/model VW you have and how's it working for you so far. Thanks!

A: The GTI was voted 'Automobile of the Year' by Automobile Magazine [Jan.2010 issue]. Again. It won this most prestigious award just 3 years ago. Plus, they bought a 2007 GTI and 'flogged it ' for a year. They reported that it was without a fault mechanically. They even 'chipped ' it and lowered the suspension, IMO thats abuse. And it still passed with a great reliability rating! December 2009 issue of Car and Driver compared Mazdaspeed3 vs. GTI. GTI won. Mazda is a good auto. I have owned one. But for me the VW is superior. No they are not perfect. But neither is Honda. My neighor has a Civic that has had 2 transmissions replaced. Just after the warranty ran out. He is currently getting up a petition to send to Honda. And Toyota has just had their most massive re-call to date. Proof of GTI/GLI re-sale value; I bought a used 2000 GTI for $15k. Sold it for $12k SIX years later! The car had 1 problem; elec. window regulator went sour. VW replaced it free, even tho it was out of warranty. I had 6 yrs of unsurpassed joy and performance from this car. My sister's 2000 Golf has over 160,000 reliable miles on it. Not a single problem. My son bought a 2008 Rabbit. Just like the battery-bunny , it just keeps going and going..... After I sold the 2000 GTI, I bought a 2006 GTI. What a car!! This turbo engine screams all the way to 7000 RPM without a complaint. And the cornering/roadholding is phenominal! This superlative auto has given me 53,000 ecstatic miles. Not one single problem. My wife drives a 2005 Jetta. Over 83,000 reliable miles. Not even a tiny hiccup....... Other than routine oil/filter changes, tires, etc. our VWs continue to impress us with their economical upkeep. I know it may seem I'm a VW freak, I have actually owned other cars too. A Mazda, Toyota, Ford. All good cars. But when I got my 1st VW , I have been convinced that I will drive no other. However, you have reminded me of the 2010 GTI. Drove one last week. Sadly, it out-performs my 2006. Looks better too... Oh well....time to talk to my wife.... Ultimately it is your choice. But at least go drive the new GTI/GLI. You wont regret it.....

Q: Buy new car before or after deployment?
I need a new car, i am about to go on deployment in March 2010. I am going to get a VW Jetta for sure.. I have 20k in debt and this will put me at 42k, i need a new car because my wife and i both need a car but if i wait til after deployment i will have all my 20k in debt paid off and some savings but i dont know to get the new car now or after, i want to now it would be more convenient but i dont have great credit too i just dont know. what should i do?

A: Thats a personal decision, but if you can get your loan through Capital One Auto Finance I know they will give you a decent rate if you can provide copies of your deployment papers. Your APR wont be more than 6% once proof is provided because they comply with SCRA. So that would help since your credit is not so good.
