Q: Volkswagen jetta?
a 2000 Volkswagen jetta with mileage of 108,216 is $4,400.00 a good price for it
A: Depending what COULD be wrong with it. Get a Carfax report first of all. The KBB of a stock, Jetta GL is $8,000 retail. I would check the car over carefully, a lot of students buy VW's and a lot of students crash them. Run your fingers down the inside of body panels to check for paint bumps.. paint bumps = painting. Painting means it was probably in an accident of some sort. Tap the doors and listen for body filler, is there a dull sound or does it sound like metal? I have owned many VW's and 4,400 sounds like a good price.. but it could have some problems. Hope this helps.
Q: volkswagen jetta?
im having leak probelm in my jetta and need someone to tell me where can i get it fixed do i have to go to the dealership because the left and right side r soak of water this is coming from the back area PLEASE HELP ME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(
A: Take it to a good mechanic, not the dealer.
If you have a sun roof, it could be clogged drains there.
Or one of the door drains could be clogged.
Or a leak around the rear window.
Q: How to replace key ignition switch 1991 Volkswagen Jetta?
I'm getting a 1991 Volkswagen Jetta later this week and the problem is it needs a key ignition switch. All I can find online is them without the keys. So what do I do have a locksmith come and make keys for the new one?
How much does this usually cost? Should I have the dealership do it instead? How much do you think they would charge?
A: You need to get a Bentley or a Haynes as they show you the Measurements to drill the hard pins out to take the lock Cylinder out of the steering lock.
To replace the electrical switch, you will need to remove the knee pad bar, the steering wheel (if air bag equipped) you have to disconnect the battery for 20 minutes prior.
You have to be carefull about the clock spring and be sure that you mark it prior to removal.
You then can take the 2 covers off the steering shaft to see the electrical switch.
There is more like removing the turn signal stalks and such as I am more familiar to a cabby then a jetta.
If you call a lock smith they will usually charge between 100-200 bucks. If your door key is the same as the ignition, you can remove a door handle and take it to the locksmith to have the key made without a house call.
Q: How much does a new or used manual transmission for a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta cost?
I drive a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta with a manual transmission. I pulled to a stop light today and when i went to move forward the car wouldnt budge. I did everything to try and get it to move, and then to try and push it off the road, no luck.
The mechanic believes the synchro is broken and i may need a new transmission. How much would a new or used transmission for my vehicle cost me?
A: VERY unlikely!!! More likely your shift cable or linkage is out of whack. Might even be clutch fluid contamination. I would be really surprised if you have a gear problem, unless th trans was run dry, without proper VW gear oil in it. If it IS the trans, try Parts Place for all Volkswagens in Pontiac, Mi. 1-248-373-2300. They will have perfectly good used and new units. Good Luck!!!
Q: 1996 volkswagen jetta gl wont start but the engine does turn over what do you think the problem is?
i have a 1996 volkswagen jetta gl and it wont start but the engine does turn over and i cant find out what is wrong with it. Do you think it can be the coil because i dont want to buy a coil and it not being the coil. The air filter is new and i just got a used fuel pump and i cant find out what the problem is so may you please help me thanks and have a nice day
A: Well, you are on the right path. You need spark and fuel for the engine to run. Oh and also air and compression, but the sound of no compression is a very distinct sound. Check for codes in the PCM first. Do you have the VR6 motor in that? Those were notorious for plug wires going bad. Check to see if you are getting spark first. Pull a plug and wire and set it on the engine block connected and have someone try to start it. You should see the spark if it is grounded properly. If there is no spark, see if it is on all cylinders. If it is on all cylinders, you need to check if your coil is getting its voltage. Or it may be fuel. Easy methods are to turn the key on and listen inside the car to hear if the fuel pump primes. It may take a few tries to hear it. If you hear it, chances are that fuel is not the problem but you still might have low fuel pressure. If you never hear it, an easy backyard check is to go to the fuel rail and locate the schrader valve. It is like a tire valve stem. Push in on it and see if fuel sprays out a little. It has to spray though, there needs to be pressure. If not, Hold it in while someone cranks it. These are basic checks that you can do to determine if it is fuel or ignition. They are not the approved methods, but they work if you don't have a lot of tools.

Q: How long do 2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLX last if it has 98,605 miles?
it's a 2000 volkswagen jetta GLX i was wondering how much more miles could i have until it dies or w/e?
A: My son has a VW GTI VR6 (1998) that had 160,000 bullet-proof miles on it when he decided to replace the timing chain.
Then he decided what-the-heck, while I'm doing that I may as well do the valves too. Then he said might as well do the piston rings while I'm at it...
Mind you these items did not need to be replaced , he knew he had 1,000s of miles to go on them. But he just wanted to do it all at one time.
The VR6 engine is a hi-performance engine. He drives it aggressively.
The Jetta you are considering should last even longer that his GTI.
Q: Has anyone who owned a Volkswagen Jetta have problems starting it in the winter?
I'm looking to buy a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI (the new deisel fuel one) and I heard from someone at work that in the cold winter weather she had a difficult time starting her Jetta. I was wondering if this was a common issue for Volkswagen owners up north...
A: I have a 1999 Jetta TDI.
I'm in the habit of putting the key in and just turning it. In the winter, there's a little light on the dash, and you need to turn the key halfway, wait for the light to go out, then turn it the rest of the way to start the car. If you don't do this, it will take a few seconds to start.
Another possible issue is the fuel gelling. This is fairly rare - it has to get really cold for it to happen. Different states/provinces sell different blends of fuel in the winter time (i.e. fuel sold in Michigan won't gel until it gets to a lower temperature than what would cause fuel sold in Florida to gel). The intention there is to make it so that your fuel won't gel.
For the 10 years I've owned my car, it's never gelled. I've lived in central Indiana that whole time. I park in the garage at night, though. If you don't have a garage, it's possible it might gel like one morning per year.
One more thing about the different states' formulations: since these cars can go so far on a tank, say you live in Detroit and go on a trip down South, during the winter, and on the way home you fill up in Lexington, KY. When you get home, you'll probably still have half a tank of Kentucky-formulated fuel in your car. It would probably be a good idea to fill the tank the rest of the way with Michigan fuel.
They sell engine block heaters - you glue it onto the bottom of your engine (quick and easy, just have to jack up the car then remove a plastic cover on the Jetta to get to it). I think they're like $60. If you don't have a garage, but do have access to a power outlet, then on the coldest winter nights you can just put it on a timer to start heating a couple hours before whatever time you leave in the morning, and you should be good to go.
Get the car - they're excellent. I should hit 200,000 miles sometime in June. My window sticker said 49mpg highway...when I drive normally (80mph) I get about 46mpg and when I drive like an old lady I get up to 53mpg. Even at 10 years old, it's still nice and peppy. Any problem you ever have, you can find lots of helpful people at forums.tdiclub.com
Q: Is this 2002 Volkswagen Jetta GLS a good buy?
A friend of mine is selling their Volkswagen Jetta GLS 2.0
It has 86k miles. All options with leather interior for $4500
They are also moving out of the country in 2 weeks (reason for sale)
I've done some research and I see that either people love their Jetta's or all they do is complain about them.
Is this a good buy?
A: as you've seen if you get a bad one it's going to cost you a lot to repair but if you get a good one might not be so bad
but why take the risk
the price is fair, but he's not giving it away
Q: Is the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta Sedan a girl car?
I was looking with Dad today for used cars and I stumbled upon a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta Sedan...I really like it but my friends say it's a girl car...is that true? I also like it because it get 24 MPG City as opposed to the 2008 Pontiac G6 GT that I was looking at that only get 17 MPG City.
A: Since the new design came out in 2005, I have not yet seen a girl driving a 2005-2009 Jetta.
Q: Is a Volkswagen Jetta good enough for an infant?
My wife and I are about to have our first child. She drives a Volkswagen Jetta. I am wondering if that is the smartest car for her to have with a newborn on board. I know Volkswagen supposedly makes some of the safest cars, but it's such a small car, that I was thinking of getting her a mid-size SUV of some sort. Obviously safety is my #1 concern. I am not sure if sticking with the Jetta makes sense, or purchasing something a bit bigger. Please advise. Thanks
A: Owning a Jetta and having an infant in the back with me, I know that they are probably the safest cars you could be driving. My 2006 Jetta GLI has about 10 airbags in the front&back seats. The latches in the seats also keep the baby extra secure in case of a crash. Dont be so worried. sometimes bigger cars are WORSE to have a newborn in because it is more room (god forbid) for them to be flung if there ever were an accident. Stay with the Jetta. Its a VERY family friendly car.
Q: I have a problem with a 1998 Volkswagen Jetta GLS Transmission, it shifts in the first two gears but nothing?
I have a problem with a 1998 Volkswagen Jetta GLS Transmission, it shifts in the first two gears but it dosen't shift after that, could it be a computer ? Thanks.
A: I have a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta GLS and I had to have my transmission replaced in 2005. If you still have a warranty take it to the volkswagen dealership they should have to fix it for free. Thats what happened to me. My car had a ton of problems after that too...
